The one thing that’s very hard to do for all humans is change. Especially of habit.
We all have that one friend who complains about that one thing that you keep giving them advice about but they never really do anything about it. If you look closely, you will realize that we are all that one friend in one way or another.
Building new habits is hard, this is why you have wanted to start doing that activity for months now but you have never really picked it up.
Why? Because it will require you to let go of certain already ingrained patterns of doing things and pick up new ones.
Whether it’s starting a business, going to the gym, eating more vegetables, quitting alcohol, doing your masters among others, to get it done, something about your normal daily routine or how you do things has to change.
This is so in business as well.
Resistance to change makes it hard for people to accept your product or what you are offering especially in the beginning.
They are already used to doing things a certain way, or using other means to get things done. Your product might be cool and more efficient but using it will still mean that they change their ways, learn new habits and as said earlier, this is no easy task.
So how do you make it easier for them to embrace your product?
You show them exactly how your product will change their future for the better. You show them the positive results that will come about as a result of making that change.
Jolie has made a new shower head that ensures you have great glowing skin for as long as you use it.
The shower head has great technology that helps with filtering shower water but what they sell to the customer is that it will improve the condition of their skin long-term.
Yes, your product has cool features already but what is the impact of that feature.
Your gym has the best equipment in town, that’s good but what is the consequence of going to the gym to me at a personal level, mentally, physically and emotionally?
And what is the consequence of me not going? The negative impact of deciding not to change my usual habit or not try that product.
This brings us to the other point.
Number two, you show them the risk of missing out or of doing nothing, in obvious or subtle ways.
Learning a new language on Duolingo will help you grow your networks and meet new people, not learning on the other hand will make it harder for you to land that new NGO job that requires knowledge of French or Spanish.
Buying skin care products will help make your skin glow, not using them will keep your skin cracked and you’ll keep getting growths.
Learning to code at Andela or ALX will help you get that job and improve your income, not learning will keep you poor or at the same no growth income level as you have always been.
If you don’t use the Jolie shower head, you will continue having bad skin and bad skin = low self esteem.
What is the outcome of using your product and what is the negative impact of not using it?
