How to get your first 100 users from Reddit.

Reddit is one of the best places to get real users for your product.

People on Reddit are there for genuine conversation and to help where necessary.

This is why if your product works and fits a particular scenario, you will get users.

It is easier said than done though simply because there are many rules that govern self-promotion on Reddit.

So how do you go about it?

Start by building rapport on the different subreddits that fit what you do or plan to do.

Take part in the conversations, answer questions, give advice, offer help and post something that people can also engage with as well.

Reddit likes intelligent and helpful conversation, something that adds value to other peopleโ€™s existence so start taking part as early as possible.

This helps you gain Karma (points) on the platform. These points will be useful in future when you need to talk about your product.

Once you are able to talk about your product, you will still need to be creative about how you put it out, open self-promotion is shunned upon on Reddit.

You can ask for help about a specific part of your product, plug it in as good solution to somebodyโ€™s problem in a comment (it should be relevant) etc.

There are days when some subreddits allow for self-promotion on a pinned post, you can plug your product in there as well.

I donโ€™t recommend going this route but if you are short of time and need to get a few people to test out your product fast, there are a few subreddits that allow open self-promotion: You may not get the numbers you want this way but if your product is useful or cool, you WILL see traction.

We got to 290 users on bookmarkish mainly from Reddit ๐Ÿคฏ.

Here are a few subreddits that you can look at to start if you are building something online.

r/design_criticues

r/Entrepreneur

r/growinpublic

r/indiehackers

r/InternetIsBeautiful

r/programming

r/selfpromotion

r/SideProject

Whether the subreddit allows for selfpromotion or not, it serves you better if you present your product in a way that will make people curious to want to know more, be creatively subtle.

But more than anything, the key is to help others on there before you ask for help yourself.
